Solar Applications
Highly energetic and focused beams of EHD nanodroplets show promise in manufacturing of photovoltaic cells using thin film technologies.
In one example, EHD can inscribe conducting or insulating lines, rather than using screen printing or lithographic techniques. The spot geometry and etch rates can be adjusted by varying voltage potentials and spray chemistries. Adjusting these variables can affect both beam distribution and energy.
Below are examples of holes burned into metal films on glass substrates.
In another example, EHD is being considered as a direct film deposition technology for various thin films.
